The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provides help to Australians who find themselves in trouble overseas.
DFAT provides Australians with emergency consular services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can contact the Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 within Australia, or +61 2 6261 3305 from outside Australia. If they cannot resolve your issue, they will make contact with a consular official in Bengaluru who will get in touch with you.
Assisting Australians Overseas
The Australian Government will do what it can to help Australians in difficulty overseas, but there are legal and practical limits to what help we may be able to provide. Information on the services we may be able to provide and information on what we cannot do are outlined in the Consular Services Charter.
